MGHS Wind Symphony Carnegie Hall

Story

The Miller Grove High School Wind Symphony has been invited to perform at one of the most pretigious concert halls in the world, Carnegie Hall. We have several performance ensembles here at Miller Grove which include the Marching Wolverines, Clarinet Choir, Flute Choir, Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, and Trombone choir. Our program has grown to over 150 members in the 12 years the school has been open. Each year we participate in the annual Large Group Performance Evaluation hosted by the Georgia Music Educators Association, where we receive superior ratings every year! We are featured in many performances for our community throughout the school year. After submitting recordings, The Miller Grove High School Wind Symphony was selected to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York on April 10, 2017. We are extremely excited about this wonderful opportunity however, we are in need of support of our community to help us get there. Our band program is quite unique. It is not just a class or extracurriculur activity; It's the joy, the life, and a safe haven for the students. It is a place where they can express themselves in one of the most beautiful art forms: Music. They learn many life skills such as discipline, responsibility, and leadership. Being in band also pushes them to be great in all areas of their academic careers. Miller Grove High School is a title 1 school, and many of my students are from single parent homes with multiple siblings. At this point a few of our cornerstone players are unable to afford the trip despite the countless fundraisers we have hosted since the beginning of the school year. We strongly believe that this opportunity is news worthy and you all could be the extra push that could help us out. We need $100,000 to make this happen. If our story were more publicly-known, it would help us out immensely. If you would like to donate to a particular student, each student needs at least $750 in order to participate in the Carnegie hall trip. To donate, find and click on the student's name you'd like to support in the Wish List Section. We appreciate the time you've taken to read this and hope that you'll consider donating and sharing our story!
